Lola's story

Lola the Pomeranian came into  Dizzy Chihuahua Rescue with quite a few health issues. 

She had been relinquished because of a ‘Heart issue,’ but we were not sure exactly what it was or how bad it may be? 

As she was such a young dog of just 11 months, we thought she deserved a chance at life and we knew we had to help her. 

. . . and so her journey with Dizzy Chihuahua Rescue began!

Lola came to us a very sick dog. She was lethargic and her heart was pumping very hard and fast. Her previous owners were not prepared to pursue any further veterinary treatment for her and relinquished her to us at Dizzy Chihuahua Rescue.

During our initial vet visit, we were told she had a congenital heart problem and needed to see a specialist. We immediately booked her in for a scan

Her scan with the Cardiologist showed she had a PDA (hole in her heart) and would need surgery to correct this. The prognosis without the surgery was not good and he said she would only have a few weeks maybe months to live. Potentially, with surgery, it could be corrected and she may lead a normal life

We booked her into the Southern Counties veterinary specialists with an expert team who undertook this complicated surgery

Tobi, the surgeon carefully blocked the hole in the heart with a tiny hand knitted device know as an ‘occluder’

Amazingly only 12 hours after surgery, Lola’s heart had shown signs of improvement and he was confident this should continue.

Our post operative check with Toby showed the heart surgery had been a success.

The hole had completely closed and her heart was almost back to a normal size.

Toby was pleased with her progress and has discharged her. She can go on to lead a normal healthy happy life.

Lola was so much happier and more comfortable. She could run about and play like a normal dog again. Our next challenge was to find the right home for her.

She was immediately greeted but the 'house dog' and they got along well.

Lola has settled well and her new family say she is coming out of her shell. She loves walks with her new 'sister'

At Dizzy Chihuahua Rescue, we will always try our best for our dogs. We believe they deserve the best chance of life possible and strive to achieve that. With our wonderful members who support us, we are proud to have brought Lola so far.
